The trim lever behind the faceplate is why this is our top pick. It is a small adjuster that caps the bottom of the dimming range, and capping the bottom is how you get rid of the flicker and buzz that dimmable LEDs produce when they are pushed low — the complaint that undoes more dimmer installations than any other. Lutron rates the Diva for 150 watts of LED, it needs no neutral wire, and it works in a single-pole circuit or a three-way one with a Lutron companion switch at the second location. Of the dimmers here it also carries the best record on the dimming itself, with the least flicker trouble of the group.
That paddle shape matters more than it sounds. A standard Decora plate covers it, so a hallway with four switches does not end up with one odd rectangle at the end. What you do not get is any app: no schedules, no voice control, no checking from the office whether you left the porch light on. If that is the goal, the Caseta below is the same idea with a radio in it, and it costs accordingly.
Two things worth knowing before you buy. The trim lever helps with most bulbs but not all of them, so a badly matched LED can still strobe at the very bottom, and the fix there is a different bulb rather than a different dimmer. And the warranty runs a year, shorter than the two years TreatLife puts on its smart switches. That is not a reason to skip it — it is a reason to keep the receipt, because a wall switch is not something you want to replace twice.
Pros
- Trim lever dials out low-end flicker and buzz
- No neutral wire required in older boxes
- Single-pole or three-way with companion switch
- Paddle shape matches standard Decora plates
Cons
- No app, scheduling, or voice control
- Won't match a house full of toggle switches
Our default recommendation: it dims LEDs more smoothly than anything else here, the trim lever fixes most flicker, and it drops into a standard paddle plate without a neutral wire.
