A Mini LED backlight rated to 1,000 nits is the reason this Samsung sits at the top of our list. Apart from the premium QN70H, it's the only set here using Mini LED rather than a plain LED array, and the extra brightness is what you notice first: a lamp beside the couch or a window behind you stops washing the picture into grey, and bright scenes keep their color instead of fading out.
Contrast is the other half of that. Local dimming lets the panel drop the backlight behind dark parts of a frame while keeping highlights hot, so night scenes and space scenes hold their shape instead of going muddy — the usual weak spot on a small set. Color is where it overdelivers: reds and greens look rich rather than plastic, which is why cartoons and sports both land well on it.
Tizen runs the show, apps open quickly, and Samsung TV Plus adds a large free channel library if you'd rather not stack subscriptions. Setup is the usual Samsung routine — an account, the phone app, and a few minutes of agreeing to things you'll never open again.
The remote is the weak point. It's a stripped-down design that turns switching between HDMI inputs into a chore, and it lags behind your presses. A universal remote or the phone app solves it, and given how good everything behind the remote is, that's a trade we'll take.
Pros
- Mini LED backlight rated to 1,000 nits
- Rich color and deep blacks in dark scenes
- Quick Tizen interface with free Samsung TV Plus channels
Cons
- Glossy finish mirrors lamps and windows
- Native 60Hz panel limits high-frame-rate gaming
For most people this is the 43-inch to buy: Mini LED brightness, color that survives a lit room, and a fast platform, without jumping to the premium tier.
