Best Overall
Lenovo Idea Tab
Key details
- Battery
- 12 hours, 7216 mAh
- Display
- 11 in, 2560 x 1600, 90Hz
- In The Box
- Tab Pen and folio case
- Memory And Storage
- 8 GB RAM, 256 GB
The pen and the folio case are both in the box, and that's the main reason this is the tablet we point most students toward. A stylus and a cover are the two extras that quietly turn an affordable tablet into an expensive one, and the Idea Tab arrives ready for a lecture hall. We were also struck by how much screen you get: an 11-inch panel at 2,560 x 1,600 and 90Hz, which keeps a PDF sharp at a comfortable zoom and doesn't smear when you scroll a long reading.
The 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage are the numbers that matter day to day. Every other pick here tops out at 128GB or less, so doubling it means a semester of slide decks, lecture recordings and photos without ever deciding what to delete. Lenovo rates the battery at 12 hours from a 7,216 mAh cell, and across a day of notes, reading and a video or two we weren't hunting for a charger. At 1.1 pounds it slips into a tote alongside a notebook.
Wi-Fi is the one thing to watch: connections can drop when you move between access points, so if your dorm or library runs a mesh network, test the handoff in the first week while the return window is open. Otherwise this is the least fiddly tablet in the group — the learning apps Lenovo preloads are genuinely useful for handwriting and calculations rather than filler.
Pros
- Pen and folio case included
- Sharp 2.5K, 90Hz display
- 256GB, double every other pick here
- 1.1 pounds, easy to carry
Cons
- No keyboard in the box
We recommend the Idea Tab to most students: the pen and folio come in the box, the 2.5K screen is easy on the eyes for long readings, and 256GB removes the storage math.
